There has been big buzz surrounding this man for a while now and finally Toronto can check out his live performance. Drums of Death is on tour with Hot Chip right now and will be playing at Circa this friday. For my money, he is one of the most interesting producers and peformers out there. Go to the show so you can tell all your friends next year that you were into him before he blew the fuck up.

Like everything else in the digital age, ghettotech music has been decentralized—and for the better. Historically exclusive to chicago and detroit, great new booty records are dropping in france, belgium and london.
Raziek from Montpellier, France has been putting out some really forward thinking juke music (i think discobelle called it eurojuke...no comment) and just recently got picked up by DJ Godfather’s Databass label. 5 fingers is exactly what any good ghettotech track should be: fast, catchy and obscene as shit. This track could make Silvia Saint blush. Here is the preview version, go grab the mastered version on Beatport.
I have mad love for Non-Stop DJs out of London, they’ve incorporated the UK approved heavy bass sound into their tracks which always have top notch production quality (which is far from universal in ghettotech). I love the dark reese bassline in “what I like” and have been playing the hell out of this track ever since it dropped.

So alias and I were down in the states for a few shows last week. Our first stop was Pittsburgh PA. Just let me say that pittsburgh is the man, DJ Geoff Cutups is also the man. Really though, i was totally surprised—no offence Pittsburghians but I was expecting Hamilton with more bullets. Pberg is full of really cool art spaces, amazing views, really dope architecture and some fun parties. Some Paper Rad cats were doing visuals at the Lazer Crunk party we played, which was great, im a big fan of their work. We had fun and I’m looking forward to going back.
Our show in Harrisburg was cancelled becasue of some venue issues, so fuck you city of Harrisburg liquor bylaws. Instead we crashed at a Super 8 in Breezebrook, PA. drank amstel, ate dennys and blew up some cheap fireworks.
Next up was the Whartscape Festival in Baltimore, run by the Wham City crew. Whartscape is 3 days of really good music all set in completely DIY venues. Example: The Death Set playing in a north Baltimore parking lot for a couple thousand kids.
I was really excited about playing the afterparty with Spank Rock, Girltalk, Cex, Ninja Sonik, Dan Deacon and a bunch of locals, but it ended up being a bit of a lesson in venue planning. Not surprisingly about 1500 people showed up to a warehouse that held 400 and the sheer insanity, heat, sweat and number of bodies totally overwhelmed the place. People were falling on the soundguy, speakers were exploding, bottles were being hurled, gear was melting… Eventually the cops showed up and booted us all the fuck out. We managed a small set but it was just such a fucking gong show that we lost sound about every 5 minutes. That aside it was a great night and I really enjoy the grittyness of bmore. We also caught the Clipse, DJ K-Swift’s (RIP) last show, ate alligator and saw Batman for 4 bucks.
